Sharing our Stories

We have been creating a variety of art pieces this term. These pieces are all about ourselves and sharing our stories. We have used different media like collage, watercolour, crayon and clay to create our art. We are beginning to make choices as artists. Each piece of art shares a little about us.

WALT: share our stories and ideas through art.
WALT: explore a variety of media and make choices about how we want our finished piece to look

Success criteria: * our message is clear
* our art represents us
* we have tried different media
* we choose the media to create the effect we want

I Think
My Buddy Thinks
my message is clear
I do it myself so it is clear
her message is clear
my art represents me
it represents me by saying my name
it represents her very well.
I have tried different media
I try different media to help my learning
she has tried different media.
I choose media to create the effect I wanted
otherwise it might not go the way i want it to go
she has choose media create the effect she wanted.
my favourite media is… because
my favourite media is coloured pens because its better for smaller work
If  she wants to use pen she can but they can run out.
Kayla, you are a very clever visual artist with an eye for detail. You think carefully about how you want your finished piece to look and make choices to achieve it. Your art has a clear message sharing aspects of your personality such as your friendly nature. I am looking forward to seeing what else you create this year.

I wonder...

WALT: ask questions as we read to make sure we understand what we read.
Remember we can question before we read…
What is this going to be about? What do I already know that will help me understand? what do I want to find out?
We can question as we read…
what does that mean? what is going to happen next? what else do I want to know?
We can question after we read…
does that make sense? what have I learned? have I answered my earlier questions? what else do I want to know?

This is my I wonder chart...and I am wondering about goosebumps and butterflies.

  • I learned to: write down my questions before I start reading
  • Most challenging was: thinking of some ideas and questions
  • Next step is to: to add more ideas for the I wonder chart
It is important to record you thinking so you can remember your ideas and it can be tricky to come up with wonderings at the start. You are making predictions about your text before you read and your are starting to ask questions to 'tune in' to your text. These strategies will help you to understand what you are reading.Your next step is to keep adding ideas and wonderings to you chart as you read, this will help you become an active reader.Kerri

We are on the path to becoming self directed learners in Adventure 9. This means we are beginning to make choices that help us grow as learners. We know what we are learning and what we need to do to get better.

We plan our week choosing activities that are going to help us reach our goals. We plan all the must do’s and then add the can do’s. Screen shot 2014-03-24 at 2.31.06 PM.pngScreen shot 2014-03-24 at 2.30.34 PM.png

Reflection

I think
My Buddy thinks
I know what I am learning
yes I am learning to do read to
someone
I know what I am learning  at maths, reading,
I know what I need to do to get better
i need to concentrate on my
learning a bit more.
I agree that she does need to concentrate.
I plan activities that are going to help my learning
I plan my own activities because i know i am going to do

She plans things that she needs to do.
I follow my plan

I follow my plan to get better at things like reading
She follows her plan proplay.
I use my learning time wisely
I use  my time wisely because I want to learn a bit more
She uses her time wisely.
Kayla, you plan your learning time carefully, including the must dos first and then the can dos. You follow your plan and use your learning time wisely to make sure you complete all your learning activities. You need to make sure you understand what you are learning during during group time so you can practise independently, remember you can use the modelling book to help when activities get tricky.
